Thank You For That Dad... The Birth of Reece's Sarcasm

(this post was done by Ryan)

Funny little conversation from yesterday that I thought I would share...

(scene begins with us getting out of the van after coming home from Micah's B-Day meal @ Stoner's restaurant... Reece loves to shut the van doors any chance he gets but Daddy gets nervous that he will pinch his (or sissy's) fingers so Daddy waits for an open opportunity to "help")

(Reece)  "Thank You for pushing that door shut Dad!"

(Ryan)   "You're welcome Reece."

(Reece)  "I meant a different kind of thank you... not a normal kind of thank you."

(Ryan... stifling a smile)  "What do you mean a 'different' kind of thank you?"

(Reece)  "The kind of thank you that you use when Im getting in trouble... that kind of thank you."

Ok.... so I guess Im busted.  My kid gets it when Im being sarcastic.  This could get interesting!

Why Do We Have Balls?

(this post was done by Ryan)

"Why Do We Have Balls?"  Sometimes when Reece asks me a question it catches me a little off guard.  This was one of those times. I answered his question with a question of my own... "Why do YOU think we have balls?"  As I tried to hold back my laughter I awaited his response.  True to form, 6 yr old Reece made one of his "thinking" faces as he stood up in the bathtub.  One final look at the subjects of this "talk" and he was finally ready with his answer.  "Is it to hold up the pee pee? Oh wait, it's to make the pee shoot out!!"

I replied "Sure" because I didn't know what else to say.  Then I followed up with "you will learn more about them when you are older... like 13 or 14 maybe."  Then he floors me one last time with his response... "Is that when my balls will hold a beard?  They don't hold a beard when Im little right?  They can only hold a beard when im older right?"... and with that I had to find an excuse to leave the room as quickly as possible!!  That boy's mind never ceases to amaze me!!

Just another day in the life of the Hunsberger family I guess!!

Acrobatics

Roman had his 15 month checkup the other week and although we love love love Dr. Grossberg--the wait time is so very long! We even arrived 30 minutes early, hoping we could be seen right around our appointment time. We actually waited an hour and then another hour in the room. Thankfully I only had Ro with me! Aunt Mimi watched Sofia and she had so much fun. Roman did really well and loved walking around the waiting room jibber jabbering to the other kids. At one point he started doing the drawbridge (pictured above) and then laid on the floor giggling. After pulling out several diapers--wearing them on his head, pulling all the books off the shelf, knocking over the play kitchen and making sure everyone knew he was in the room we were finally called back. He also got 2 shots and did really great!

A baby in her belly

We visited my parents on Labor day and when we were getting ready to go home, Sofia thought it would be funny to shove 3 plastic toy balls down her shirt. I really thought she was going to say...look mommy I look like YOU! But no she didn't say that, instead she said she had a BABY in her belly! Somehow she thinks you carry your babies where mommy's--um shall I say--milk tanks are. It was so cute watching her walk around with these plastic balls in her shirt. She looked so top heavy! Oh Sofia you are a joy in our lives even when you are demanding and sassy. :)

Back to School

Reece was very excited to return to school and part of me was too because he seemed  bored at times. However I have missed him during the day more than I thought I would and both Sofia and Roman have too.

Of course you know with Reece there is always something interesting going on inside his brain. Last time I blogged about his curiosity regarding bridges--how high they are, etc. Now he is into the make and models of cars. He actually asks random people how old their car is or what kind they have and then asks me if our car is bigger or older...he usually always knows the answer to this but asks anyways! This morning he asked how old our house was compared to our van..and he figured out which one was older and by how many years. His brain impresses me often but what I can't figure out is why he isn't more tired? He has so much going on up there that I don't know how he doesn't want to nap and let it rest. I know I am tired after answering question after question after question AND a lot of times I don't have the answer. Wow! He is going to outsmart us soon..probably already has but I don't want to admit it just yet. We are proud of the boy he is and can't wait to see what he does with his God given intelligence. :)

Here are some pics before he MISSED the bus on his first day. ;/
